History

Hughes-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. was established when John Hughes and Dwayne E. Taylor purchased Hollis Funeral Home from Ed Hollis in 1974. Ed Hollis purchased Smith Funeral Home in 1949 from George Smith. The Smith Funeral Home was established in 1842.

I was born in Scottsburg, Indiana, in 1973. I graduated from Salem High School in 1992 and  married Cheryl Taylor in 1993.


In 1996, I graduated from Mid-America College of Funeral Service, and my daughter, Emily, was born that same year. My son, Evan, joined our family in 1999.


I am a Past Master of Salem Lodge #21, Past Patron of Salem Chapter #286, and a member of York Lodge #512. I'm also an active member in the Exchange Club of Salem and the Salem Lions Club.
