During the Oklahoma City bombing, John assisted on site as a representative of the Boise Fire Department.

John also served as President of the Town Board of Borden and served on several committees with Clark County Hospital. John was an avid U of L fan, and loved watching his grandkids in their sports activities. John was a member and deacon of the Borden Church of Christ.
