Ben Peerce Swindler

October 15, 1931 ~ June 2, 2022 (age 90)


Ben Peerce Swindler, age 90, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away June 2, 2022. Born on October 15, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the older brother to Glen and the older brother to Diana.

Ben grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and attended Male High School. He graduated from Transylvania University in 1953 with a business degree. After graduation, Ben went into the real estate development business with his father Benjamin Swindler. They were responsible for building some of the first subdivisions in Jefferson County outside the city limits and were, for many years, the largest home builders in the state of Kentucky.

Ben loved his cars, his motorcycles, and later in life was an avid glass collector. He was a Deacon with the Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church and then the Anchorage Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Home Builders Association in which his father helped create almost 70 years ago. He was a member of the Building Industry Association and the Rotary Club. Ben was a veteran of the Korean War.

Ben is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Swindler, his mother, Wilma Swindler, and his beloved granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Chastain. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ellmore Chastain Swindler; his brother and sister Glenn and Diana; his daughters, Jen Pennington, Holly Pool (Clark) of Baltimore, MD, and Heather Swindler; his grandchildren Elizabeth Smith (Tyler) of Baltimore, MD and Eric Pool (Alexandra) of Philadelphia, PA and great grandfather of Madeline and Tucker Smith; his sons, David Swindler, Robert Swindler Chastain (Dr. Melissa Chastain); his grandchildren Austin Chastain and Rebecca Chastain of Anchorage, Kentucky.

A graveside service was conducted Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Crown Hill Cemetery; Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with graveside services.
