Sandra Lee Backus

Sandra Lee Backus, age 75, of Salem Indiana, passed away Friday September 20, 2019 at St. Vincent Salem Hospital. Born on November 9, 1943 in Taylor Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth Crowley.

Sandra was a retired florist. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Church, Chaplin of the American Legion Post 41, and called BINGO at the Senior Center.

Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Everett Backus; 7 sons, Melvin Backus, Jeffery Backus, David Backus, Kent Backus, Wendall Backus, Fred Gerdom, and David Gerdom; daughter, Lorie Backus; brother, Timothy Crowley; 6 sisters, Sylvia Wencel, Pauline Thompson, Sarah Nemet, Deanna Crowley, Lilly O'Bryan, and Ruth Jones; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 3:00 PM at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Salem. Viewing will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Brother Rodney Sweeney will officiate.
