Raymond Edward Taylor, age 61, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at UofL Hospital in Louisville. Born June 12, 1964 in Wampum, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Paul W. Taylor and Barbara J. (Eddy) Taylor.
Raymond was a fighter, overcoming many obstacles throughout his years, including cancer. If he loved you, you knew. He loved to joke around with people and afterwards, he would always tell you he loved you. Raymond had a rough and tough persona, but such a caring and kind heart. He loved playing ball and fishing with his son, Edward, and considered being a father as his greatest accomplishment in life. He loved taking care of the neighborhood cats, and they always knew where they could come for food. Raymond enjoyed taking walks and sitting on his porch playing scratch off tickets. Most recently, he helped with providing meals to those in need with Forever Changed Outreach Salem. Even in his passing, he continued to give through the gift of organ and tissue donation, a final act of generosity that reflects the heart he carried throughout his life.
Raymond is survived by his son, Edward Taylor; 2 brothers: Robert H. Taylor (Barbara) of Wampum, Pennsylvania and Ronald J. Taylor (Sheila) of Talmo, Georgia. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Barbara Taylor, and a brother, Dennis Taylor.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral care.
