Louis Raymond Daugherty Jr., age 89, of Salem, died Wednesday June 18, 2014 at the Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, IN. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Salem. He was born December 25, 1924 in Lebanon, KY.
Survivors include: 3 sons, Terry "Joe" Daugherty (Pat), Blaine Daugherty (Mary) , and Tracy Daugherty (Sharon); 8 daughters, Phyllis Blandford (Joe), Donna Brabandt (Tom), Paulette Tucker (Phil), Pam Murrer (Dave), Patty Cambron (Danny), Janet Eisenback (George), Fran Downs (Jack), and Christa Hall (Eric); 1 sister, Cecilia Spalding; 2 brothers, Harold and Joe Paul Daugherty; 25 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Matilda Spalding Daugherty; parents, Louis and Irene Hamilton Daugherty; 2 brothers, Clifton and Charles "Pete" Daugherty; 3 sisters, Florence Bott, Gladys Thomas and Collette Schickel.
The funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Viewing will be Sunday from 2-8 PM at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral in Salem, and Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Burial will be at the St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hosparus of Southern Indiana or the Alzheimer's Association.
His family extends gratitude to the staff at the Green Valley Care Center for the excellent care and compassion he received the past four years. The family also thanks the staff at Hosparus of Southern Indiana for the medical care given and the guidance, assistance and support to the family over the last few weeks.
