James C. Watson, age 79, of Salem, passed away February 28, 2014 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville Kentucky. Born on February 21, 1935 in Clarkson, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Oliver C. Watson and Hester Ann (Puckett) Watson.
He was an Army Veteran, he served in Germany and Italy. He earned the Medal of Honor. He was a member of the FOP Lodge # 142. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church.
He graduated Valedictorian of the Borden High School class of 1954. He worked at Tube Turns in Louisville. He was a Layth and X-Ray operator. He was an Insurance Agent for Lincoln Hills. He worked with the Washington County Sheriff's Department from 1974-2000. He was the Washington County Sheriff from 1991-1994. He was the Pekin Town Marshall from 2000-2002. He was a driver for Medi-Ride and Older Americans.
Survivors include: companion, Lorie Backus; 1 daughter, Deidre Jill (Michael)Elrod; 1 sister, Angelene (Kenneth) Nice; 2 granddaughters, Jocelyn and Madelyn.
Preceded in death by: parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
The funeral service has been rescheduled for Tuesday 1:00 PM at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will be at Franklin Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Brothers Robert Watson, Mike Combs and Kevin Carty will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
