Chester “Chet” Pelfrey, 70, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his residence. Born on September 24, 1954, he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Edith Fern (Reffitt) Pelfrey. On June 20, 2009, he married Donna (Sutton) Pelfrey, who survives.
Chet was a milk farmer for Ledford Farms, hauled Amish for several years, and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He was a Baptist by faith.
Chet is survived by his wife of 15 years, Donna; his 3 children: Miranda Pelfrey (Daniel Silverthorn), Jessica Greeninger, and Kala Pelfrey; a brother, Harold Pelfrey; 2 sisters: Pauline Thacker and Juanita Fleenor (Jerry); 6 grandchildren: Kristin England (Dylan), Alexis Booth, Hayley Greeninger, Kyle Greeninger, Jessica Walters and Robin Walters; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Edith Pelfrey; and 3 brothers: William Mural Pelfrey, Winton Pelfrey and Lynn Allen Pelfrey.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Salem Chapel, with Brother Steve Gorman officiating. Burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
