Carasena Lynn Shields, age 71 of Salem, passed away in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Born on November 9, 1954 in Salem, she was the daughter of Elzie R. Ewing and Patricia (Harlen) Ewing.

Carasena was a devoted member of the American Legion and held a lifetime membership with the VFW.

Carasena is survived by her partner and significant other: Rex Cowels; two children: James Hammack Jr. and Johnathan Lee Daulton; one brother: Randy Ewing; one sister: Cathy Pumphrey, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son; Jared Daulton, one brother; Reggie Ewing and one grandson; Jordan Collins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Salem. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow  at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem.
