Bruce M. Gray, age 84, of Salem, passed away May 20, 2014 at the St. Vincent Salem Hospital. Born on November 1, 1929, in Pekin, Indiana, he was the son of the late Herman N. Gray and Rowena B. (Terrell) Gray.
He was a member of the Christian Heritage Chapel Church in Salem.
He was a former Sheriff of Washington County from 1974-1982. He served as the Republican Central Committee County Chairman. He also served on the City Council Member. He was appointed Interim Mayor in 1983. He was a former Superintendent of the State Highway Department. He was also manager of Imperier Mobile Home Park in Kentucky and a Supervisor at Superwash carwash in Salem.
He was a member of the New Providence Lodge # 237 , Borden Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #588 , and the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include: wife, Naomi (Coats) Gray of Salem; 1 son, David Gray of Salem; 1 brother, Donald Gray of Salem; 1 sister, Sandra Sue Nichols of Salem; 1 grandson Ryan Gray of Salem; 1 great grandson, Stephen Gray of Salem.
Preceded in death by: parents, 1 sister Joyce Elliott, 1 grandson Troy Gray and 1 great grandson Darren Gray.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Salem. Viewing will be from 4-8 PM Friday with a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM, and Saturday viewing from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Bro. Jim Longley will officiate.
