Audree Mae Hobson

Audree Mae Hobson, 22, of Salem, Indiana, passed away September 17, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic after a prolonged critical illness, with her Auntie at her side, holding her hand.

Audree was born August 9, 2004, in Clark County, Indiana, and graduated from Eastern High School in 2023. She was raised with immense love by her grandparents and custodial parents, Maurita “Mamaw” Green and the late Oscar “Papaw” Green, with her aunt and “bonus parent,” Leslie “Auntie” Green, playing a central role throughout her life.

Quiet and soft-spoken but remarkably strong-willed, Audree was clever, curious, meticulously tidy, and deeply loving. She adored animals, especially dogs, and once dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She loved Taylor Swift, traveling, concerts, fuzzy socks, Dr Pepper, fast food, and Mamaw’s chicken ramen—one of the few things she still requested from her hospital bed.

Audree was also a notorious blanket hoarder, accumulating seven during her hospitalization. She especially loved blankets freshly washed in Mamaw’s fabric softener. When Auntie brought back freshly washed blankets, Audree would press one to her face, breathe deeply and say, “Mmm! Smells like home.”

Her final two and a half months were a cruel summer of critical illness at IU Health and Cleveland Clinic. Audree was deeply loved by the nurses who cared for her. They painted her nails, washed and braided her hair, talked with her, kept her company, and surrounded her with extraordinary tenderness through the end.

Audree is survived by her grandmother Maurita Green; her father, Jeremy Hobson; her aunt Leslie Green; her uncle Kyle Hobson (Meganne Jones); her aunt Kelley Greene; her uncle Tommy Hobson (Sandra Hobson); her cousins Tanner Hobson, Celina Paul, Aaron Contreras, Adam Hobson, Jude Hobson, Eric Contreras, and Ethan Contreras; her beloved dog, Bear; and many friends and extended family members.

Audree was bigger than the whole sky to those who loved her, and our thoughts will echo her name until we see her again.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather Oscar Green; her cousin Tommy Hobson, Jr.; and her beloved dogs JoJo and Hunny.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Audree’s name to the Fair Haven Foundation in Indianapolis, whose support helped make it possible for her Auntie to remain near her side during her prolonged hospitalization at IU Health.
